The thing I'd recommend, as a native English speaker, is work on developing your accent so that it follows either a General American accent or British Received Pronunciation accent. These generic accents are easily understood by any English speaker and you can develop them through practice when listening and repeating along with news broadcasts on the BBC or CNN.

But, don't worry too much about it. The considerable regional differences can cause communication problems at times even with native English speakers. My Southern US accent has produced some funny moments when talking with someone from Australia or Wales.
