On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

About me

Hello, I'm Magisch and I'd like to nominate myself to become a moderator.

I'm in my 20s and working as a software developer living in Germany.

On Stack Exchange, I'm active here, Meta Stack Exchange, Stack Overflow and Interpersonal Skills (reduced but still). I occasionally participate in the charcoal project to fight spam, which is where most of my over 10000 helpful flags across the network come from (a mixture of automatic flags from the project and my own, I would guess about 50% of them are manual).

In the past I've tried out some techniques to detect and flag serial voting on Stack Overflow, although the results have been mixed. I'm also active as a Room Owner in the Tavern on the Meta, the general chat room for Meta Stack Exchange.

Why do I want this?

I really like the theory of moderation, Stack Exchange in general and this site in particular. I want to help it succeed and think this could be a opportunity for that.

I'm open to any inquiries or questions in the election chat room or any other chat room I'm active in.

My answers

Member for more than a year with increasing reputation, good answers and steady moderation/editing/voting efforts. I've enjoyed this community and its thoughtful questions and like giving back into it.

Hello, I am Mister Positive ( or you may have seen me around as my alter ego Neo ). I would like to offer myself to the community to serve as your moderator.

Being a Moderator at its core is about dealing with people in a calm, polite, and fair manner, when the situation may be anything but.

Fun facts: I am in my 40's, married, and a father of 2. I have a very diverse professional background: bagging groceries, waiter, military service, and now a senior software engineer.

Why would I want to be a moderator? Simply put, I would like to give back to the community, and I think I have a lot to offer with the level of experience I have in negotiating with all types of people.

Many of our more experienced high rep users helped me along the way with my goal of being a better writer and contributor. They showed patience, kindness, and the willingness to help make me a better community member, and for this I am very grateful.

Thank you for considering my nomination, and best of luck to all the candidates.

My Answers

Greeting everybody, I am DarkCygnus (or Mike outside the digital world) and I would like to serve you as a Moderator on this site.

Since I joined this wonderful Community, I quickly became engaged and participative on it. I have been actively editing, commenting, and answering posts with the purpose of helping others and improving the site. I intend to keep doing this, and now would like to increase the ways I can help in The Workplace by serving as your Moderator.

I have been around in the SE network for around 5 years now (here, SO, Meta SE, Board & Card Games), where I have had quite some time to read, ask, and learn about the system. I consider myself a good observer and a quick learner, which is perhaps one of the reasons I have learned my ways on the Network.

I think that The Workplace is a great community that is helping many people out there face real life situations, and I am positive that we can continue growing and improving ourselves and the Community.

I would love to be your Moderator so we can together strive for an even greater and wiser Community.
