Dec 31, 2018 at 23:02 comment added Old_Lamplighter @Mazura The culture in India is very different than America. In America, even asking is a HUGE no-no. In india, it's more the norm. The cultural gap is huge here, so NOT answering can be considered rude
Dec 31, 2018 at 22:23 comment added Mazura Maybe it's because I'm American, but reading between the lines of the questions about family, aren't they trying to find out if you're going to quit or ask for a bunch of time off because you're pregnant, or have kids in the first place? Yeah, I have 12 kids and I'm a single mom. (Next!)
Dec 31, 2018 at 22:09 comment added Patrice @WonderWoman if nothing else, I'd say your will to answer these tactfully, understanding how important it is to not dismiss the question while still being professional in your answer is a good showcase of how valuable you may be for your employers :). Good on you for thinking about it this way, and best of luck in your research :)
Dec 31, 2018 at 21:12 comment added corsiKa @RichardU "Vague but verbose" wow, I don't think anyone has ever summed up my personality in three words before! Thank you!
Dec 31, 2018 at 19:20 comment added Old_Lamplighter @LyndonWhite Any and all of the above
Dec 31, 2018 at 19:10 comment added Frames Catherine White Is the point of "drag it on for some time being vague, but verbose.", to simply to make them unwilling to ask another because you are boring? Or is it so you can make them feel like they have satisfied their (possibly subconcious) quota for personal small talk? Or for some other reason.
Dec 31, 2018 at 16:54 comment added Old_Lamplighter @WonderWoman I am happy that I could help you.
Dec 31, 2018 at 16:50 comment added WonderWoman I so admire you for these answers. I can't wait to use these replies. I know I cannot avoid such questions; but answering them tactfully is important too. Thank you so much.
Dec 31, 2018 at 16:46 comment added Old_Lamplighter @WonderWoman just added a response to that. If you are ever cornered, and must answer, or offend, answer and then drag it right back to promoting yourself without giving them time to follow up on the personal question.

Dec 31, 2018 at 16:41 comment added WonderWoman Pretty cool replies. I am mugging them up. There was another very personal question? 'Do you have kids?'. I am like, why God, why? I do not want my interviewer to know answer for that. How should I (not)reply to that?
