I got hired as consultant (hardware engineer) after a brief phone interview that went really well. He was impressed not only with my skill A but also skill B and C. I was asked to join immediately.

It was basically a one man's company where the owner was the sole employee (design engineer). I was hired through a recruiting agency.

On my second day after I was on my way to home, I received call from the recruiter, asking me not to go to work tomorrow. I was in a shock. I was not given a clear reason but was told he needed someone with more experience.

This gave me great painpains because

  • He had reviewed my resume
  • He had interviewed me over the phone
  • We had talked about my previous experiences and he was fine with it
  • I did not oversell myself, in fact was quite honest enough about my past projects.
  • There was nothing false in my resume.
  • I did not make any mistake in the two days that I worked
  • I did not get enough time for my skills to be properly evaluated (justonly 14 hours of work)
  • The termination was on phone
  • There was no discussion there would be an evaluation period.
  • He never spoke to me in person to explain it.

Do I have any options here? Can I fight for my rights here when I am not apparently at fault? How do I cope with this situation now and in future.

Getting fired on the second day, ishow do I cope with it fair?

I got hired for a jobas consultant (hardware engineer). The after a brief phone interview that went really well over the telephone. He was impressed not only impressed with my past projectskill A but also hoped my other skills will benefit him in other areasskill B and C. I was asked to join immediately as a consultant.

The day I joined, his first words I heard from him was

"I do not know much about you"

I was really excited to work on the project. This was something related to my field. I started looking at extra material to speed things up, started looking at books, tutorial as I loved the job. You say can I was putting in 110%. The companyIt was reallybasically a one man's company. He where the owner was a designer and the sole employemployee (design engineer). He did have some helpersI was hired through a recruiting agency.

On the firstmy second day after I worked for 8 hours, was on the second I worked for 6 as he had to leave early. On my way backto home, I got areceived call from the recruiter,

"He does not want you to come back tomorrow"

asking me not to go to work tomorrow. I was in a bit of shock but I really did not get it at the point. The next day it really hit me, and it hit me quite badly. I think this is something that will staywas not given a clear reason but was told he needed someone with me for the rest of my lifemore experience.

I was not disappointedThis gave me great pain because I was fired on my second day.

Do I was disappointed because the employer did not have the courtesy to speak to me in person and discuss thatany options here? Can I fight for my skill were probablyrights here when I am not enough toapparently at fault? How do the job, that is something would make the process so much easy and understandable for me. I was fired on the phone by a third person, which to me is probably one of the worst thing that can happen to any employeecope with this situation.

My question is

  1. Is it fair for employer to fire someone on the next day over the phone with out giving any solid reason? Is it common?

  2. Can the employee do anything about it if this is something violates him/her emotionally just because it is against common code of conduct?
