I got hired for a job (hardware engineer). The interview went really well over the telephone. He was not only impressed with my past project but also hoped my other skills will benefit him in other areas. I was asked to join immediately as a consultant. The day I joined, his first words I heard from him was > "I do not know much about you" I was really excited to work on the project. This was something related to my field. I started looking at extra material to speed things up, started looking at books, tutorial as I loved the job. You say can I was putting in 110%. The company was really a one man's company. He was a designer and the sole employ. He did have some helpers. On the first day I worked for 8 hours, on the second I worked for 6 as he had to leave early. On my way back, I got a call from the recruiter, > "He does not want you to come back tomorrow" I was in a bit of shock but I really did not get it at the point. The next day it really hit me and quit bad. I think this is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I was not disappointed because I was fired on my second day. I was disappointed because the employer did not have the courtesy to speak to me in person and discuss that my skill were probably short and not enough to do the job, that is something would make the process so much easy and understandable for me. I was fired on the phone by a third person, which to me is probably one of the worst thing that can happen to any employee. My question is 1. Is it fair for employer to fire someone on the next day over the phone with out giving any solid reason? Is it common? 2. Can the employee do anything about it if this is something violates him/her emotionally just because it is against common code of conduct?
