Micromanagement is a style of management where the manager is managing very small details of an employe's day to day (or hour to hour) tasks.

Micromanagement is when a manager manages the small details of an employees tasks. This can take a number of forms:

  • Excessive reporting
  • Delegation and detailed feedback
  • Hit and Run micromanagement

This style of management is generally seen to have a negative impact upon the employee productivity and morale and the company as a whole. There are many additional specific organizational and management anti-patterns that are associated with micromanagement.

Many times micromanagement is driven by (politically) sensitive tasks (long or short term) where the management will step in and direct the hour by hour tasks that are being done.
