If a salesman contacts a low-level employee directly and asks if they are interested in their products what should said employee do?

Some suggestions:

  • Politely decline?
  • Forward the contact details of the procurement department?
  • Discuss the matter with the manager?
  • Inform the legal department?

If a salesman contacts a low-level employee directly and asks if they are interested in their products what should said employee do?

I have a lot of options, including the following, but what is typically acceptable for someone in this position to respond? Some suggestions:

  • Politely decline?

I'm not asking multiple questions but rather recognizing that there are multiple possible responses. I'm asking what is generally considered a good response without overstepping my bounds?

Made title more specific. The previous title can refer to what the employee should do, what the employees manager should do, what the salesman should do or what the salesman's manager should do. Although questions phrased in terms of "I" are usually preferred.
