People love to say you need to leave to get a raise, like it's some kind of ultimate truth, but it really needs to be determined on a case by case basis. Some employers are happy to promote internal talent. Back in the beginning of my career, I received what amounted to almost 300% in raises from one of my first employers, who I was with for 6 years. It would have been a shame to walk from that company after only a year or two because I was looking for "big" raises and thought I had to switch to get them.
