Apr 10, 2020 at 20:29 comment added Nemo @DmitryGrigoryev Thanks for making the edit. I can only speak of my experience and that's the part which hit me. It evokes the thought of parents sending kids to "conversion therapy" and memories of struggling with something I definitely didn't choose.
Apr 3, 2020 at 19:09 comment added Dmitry Grigoryev @Nemo Done. I'm not sure why you single out being gay out of the list. I don't see a difference between telling a gay they should try opposite sex and telling a child-free they should try having kids.

Apr 3, 2020 at 18:31 comment added Nemo @DmitryGrigoryev My suggestion is s/is a fine position in life/is fine/. Unless you have religious reasons to include a noun in this sentence, there is no need to claim that any of the following things is a "position". If you must include a noun and that noun is "position", which can be perceived as an euphemism of "choice", then I suggest that you remove "being gay", whose presence in that list after that noun can be perceived as offensive and isn't in any way needed to convey your point (as far as I can tell).
Mar 30, 2020 at 14:51 comment added Dmitry Grigoryev @Nemo You seem to say that "position" is not the right word. I couldn't find a better one (I already edited out "choice"), but I'm open to suggestions if you have them.
Mar 30, 2020 at 6:25 comment added Nemo @DmitryGrigoryev I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say. You could just say "is fine".

Mar 27, 2020 at 10:26 comment added Dmitry Grigoryev @goblin I try to make my point clear and avoid distractions if possible. Discussing whether a particular position in life is a choice or not is exactly a distraction.
Mar 27, 2020 at 9:58 comment added goblin GONE Well I for one thought the answer was more fun and intellectually playful before the edit. On the other hand, I guess the change will avert potential future conflict, which arguably is good. But on yet the other hand, the question has to be asked: is it actually good to side with the incessant harassment the contemporary PC crowd brings to bear against those who partially disagree with part of their point of view? Arguably it's better to court low-levels of conflict now, when the stakes are low. That's my opinion, anyway.
Mar 27, 2020 at 9:52 comment added Dmitry Grigoryev @goblin Fixed. IMO the real difference between those cases is that nobody thinks that Stallman should be convinced to use Facebook using pills / electroshock. At least for now that is.
