If you are afraid that wearing a mask will make you appear unprofessional, and you believe the risk of you passing on Covid to the interviewer and also the risk of the interviewer passing it to you, combined, is lower than the risk of you not getting the job by (in your opinion) appearing unprofessional by wearing a mask, then you should just not wear a mask. The goal of the interview is to get the job, and if you believe that goal would be hurt by wearing a mask, and nothing will be gained by it, then don't wear it. That's all.
Jun 22, 2020 at 5:30 | comment | added | guest | @Studoku-ReinstateMonica: My view is that in certain countries and non-covid times, people should avoid masks at interviews. My view is further that people who claim "people wear maks for different reasons all the time in non-covid times at interviews" should state which country they talk about. But how do my viees answer the posted question, could you explain?

Jun 21, 2020 at 20:46 | comment | added | Comic Sans Seraphim | " if you believe you don't have COVID-19 and also you believe the interviewer doesn't have it, is to simply not wear a mask" Are you privy to ways of knowing this that we aren't?
Jun 20, 2020 at 11:08 | comment | added | guest | That is why I am asking you for your location because i.e In Germany, blue-collar (and also white-collar) industry it is not a good strategy to wear a mask (in non covid times) to an interview if it can anyhow be avoided (unless you are a mega superstar). (Similarly to not displaying a tatoo in the interview if it can be avoided.) Since in your region and industry, it is not strange to wear maskes at interviews, please add it to the question. I wanted to make you aware that it is not a worldwide thing.
Jun 19, 2020 at 20:20 | comment | added | Ertai87 | I am not. Obviously if I was sick I would ask to postpone the interview. However, if I feel well enough to attend the interview but there is a possibility that I think I might be coming down with something then I'll do my best to protect those around me.

Jun 19, 2020 at 20:02 | comment | added | guest | So where are you? And are you somehow famous in your profession? I would (in my region in Western Europe) not recommend anyone to wear a mask at an interview if they can anyhow avoid it if they want to get a job. For the non-famous superstar, first impressions are so important that I would rather recommend to postpone the interview.
Jun 19, 2020 at 19:58 | comment | added | Ertai87 | @guest When I have a bad cold or otherwise communicable disease, I usually wear a mask if I'm going to a social event. It's common courtesy.
