Most have been sticking around with their first job for years and are still at these companies. I definitely do not know switching your employer every year as the norm. Maybe this is different in north america or this is depending on your specialisation.

I'd say it depends on the field you're in. That said, a web developer should at least be aware of the latest frontend developments - and a bit of javascript never hurt ;)
