These trainings aren't designed with the purpose of doing good, they're designed for PR washing and keeping folk in line. If one were to ask proper, well thought out questions at these sessions, they'll get labelled as troublemakers who don't want to fall in line.
May 28, 2021 at 14:28 | comment | added | David R | @Lucas You are correct in the "diversity washing" where a company only talks, but does not act. To take this out of the ideological, ask the question, "what is the business issue here?" It is surprising how many businesses have missed out on fantastic opportunities because people did not see - due to their biases. There is also a lot of money to be made helping people who are "diverse" but many businesses won't because of avoiding that diversity. It would be good to go to these sessions and ask the hard questions about actual change instead of PR "washing".
May 28, 2021 at 12:56 | comment | added | Lucas | That's the main gist of it. The moment something becomes ideological and not practical, it becomes bad business, since it can be spun into a ''you are bad I am good'' scenario, with all the libel that can be utilized. In my opinion, any corporation that spouts PR talk about how they are for (deemed) social issue X are likely violators of it, not actual ''fixers'', yet we somehow have to believe they are now ''good''. One example? Something something ''restore monica''
May 28, 2021 at 11:22 | comment | added | Jivan | Lucas is onto something here and obviously the bulk of this site is not going to follow along quite well, hence the (opinion-based) downvotes.
May 28, 2021 at 10:25 | comment | added | Lucas | I know, self-reflection is indeed a difficult thing to ascribe to oneself Andy. Also, evidence points to James Damore.
May 28, 2021 at 10:15 | comment | added | BittermanAndy | When someone has to make up a completely fictitious story to support their case, which includes a nonsensical and absurd claim that every single time a man talks to a woman it's immediately and automatically deemed "mansplaining" [something itself for which I am confident you will be unable to provide supporting evidence], many people would self-reflect and realise that they don't really have a valid point. But... that's clearly too much for some.
May 28, 2021 at 9:57 | comment | added | Lucas | This site exists if a) there is a potential decision to make, either of which could lead to a potential bad outcome or b) someone else doesn't abide by the rules of the corporation or common decency and how to properly approach it. That is about 99% of the answers here. The problem with such a session is that it states the obvious; don't be a baddie. Follow rules you are familiar with. It's framed though, to impose fear of repercussions if anything that can be slightly interpreted as a ''bad'' action will damage your career.
May 28, 2021 at 9:55 | comment | added | BittermanAndy | Weird that this site exists if "anyone knows how to behave in the workplace", isn't it?
May 28, 2021 at 9:52 | comment | added | Lucas | Seen enough recordings of it. Anyone knows how to behave in the workplace, disregarding rules doesn't mean they aren't known - these sessions have 1 purpose only; make it clear that if anyone ''steps out of line'' (e.g. criticizing the wrong person for a corporate issue) they're branded as ''wrong person'' for their job/career. It's disgusting.
May 28, 2021 at 9:44 | comment | added | BittermanAndy | Have you taken the same training course? If not, how do you know it is "unprofessional, heavily politicized indoctrination"?
