  • Arrival and Continental Breakfast (9:30 - 10:30): Tea/coffee and breakfast pastries served in Chaplain's Marquee
  • Company Meeting (10:30 - 13:00): Chaplain's Marquee
  • Lunch (13:00 - 14:00)
  • Team building event (14:00 - 17:00): Walled Garden
  • Drinks reception (17:00 - 18:00): Walled Garden
  • BBQ (18:00 - 21:00): Walled Garden
  • Depart (21:00)

In conclusion, can a company force/order people to join a social event?

Update

Thank you all for your comments and opinions. I carefully read all and I understand the advice. I like to stress few points:

  • if the company asks if I want to join a social event, this means I can say no
  • when the company sends an email asking if I want to join reinforce my idea that the event is optional
  • I worked in the last 5 years with remoted team without any issues at all. The communication was great, and we always achieved the target and goals the companies asked for
  • It is my opinion that this kind of events are useless because if a company wants to create good teams has to pay better its employees and hires qualified people.
  • Management is creating these events to motivated people to stay in the company. Unfortunately, the turnover is high, and these events don't have any impact on it. People will live the company anyway because the unlinking problems are still there.
  • To do my job as a manager, I don't need to see people in person, but I have to show them that I'm knowledgeable and fair. The people that are working with me have to know that if there is a problem, I'm here to solve it or help them to solve it (or mitigate it). I have to challenge my teams to improve the knowledge and don't bore them. Keep them busy and happy.

Those are just few thoughts. I understand the management could think they don't like me, but it is not the reason I'm in a company: I'm not here to please people but doing my job.

And finally, in this moment in time where people are struggling paying bills, an event that costs minimum 50k for 100 attendees could be avoided and split the money as a reward to those people.

PS: none of the comment are based on law
