Everyone does not deserve your immediate attention at every possible moment. Or an detailed explanation of your concerns. This is setting a boundary. Also, it's not guaranteed to work. People respond differently depending on culture and environment. A lighter or heavier hand may be needed.
May 12, 2023 at 5:55 | comment | added | JonathanZ | I'm sure most of us have heard the idea that the things people do in rom-coms would be downright creepy if done in real life. This suggestion would be funny if you saw it in a sitcom, but in real life it'd make you look like a passive-aggressive jerk. Don't do it - you won't like the person you were when you think back on it.

May 11, 2023 at 22:46 | comment | added | DKNguyen | I can't believe so many people think this is how to not be rude. This is how you avoid confrontation at the expense of being nice or honest. Are you trying to not be rude? Or are you trying to avoid confrontation? There is a difference.

May 11, 2023 at 14:19 | comment | added | Yakk | I'm unclear why this is Friendly. Is it like "surface Friendly but actually hostile" Friendly? It seems like the suggestion is "hit them on the nose with a newspaper when they do an action you disapprove of, but do it while pretending to be friendly". Which ... seems like a pretty toxic first resort.

May 11, 2023 at 8:32 | comment | added | Dor1000 | Would any of us want to be treated this way? Bite The Bullet. This answer says to play mind games and waste time on purpose. Born CEO. Tho in certain cases people melt down from the slightest confrontation; let them deal and curb any anxiety that's caused.
May 10, 2023 at 18:20 | comment | added | Daniel R. Collins | @Bass: I'm sure many folks here would like a later update to the question on how this works out.
