As I said in the comments to my answer, it is perfectly acceptable to carry on with the current task, do a good job, and then point out that you prefer team projects. Anything he says to that effect now sounds like he wants someone else to do his job.

I'll do it if it has to be done, but I'll push back if you're just trying to get all the fun parts for yourself - that's not teamwork.
