If your managers have never done this then you should probably be asking why? And I would look to see if you could be the reason rather than them. | |

Most of my managers were 'status reporters' with responsibilities but insufficient power to actually inflict change. In that sense, architects had more power in the organization. I imagine that everyone in IT eventually hopes to be in position where they can, in their golden age, use their experience for 'bigger things'. At the same time, I despair at the thought of having to push numbers in excel to get there. | |

There are positions you can move into from the architect role. And I have seen managers promoted from the architect role. | |
