May 27, 2015 at 21:33 | comment | added | dalawh | @DJClayworth Thanks for the help. I know there is no magic spell for doing these type of things, but I just want to make sure I don't say the wrong things or go too far.

May 27, 2015 at 21:32 | comment | added | dalawh | @keshlam I am pretty willing at this point. As much as I don't want to lose them, I really want that extra amount.

May 27, 2015 at 21:27 | comment | added | DJClayworth | Then this is really simple. You say "I will accept your offer if you add a signing bonus of $X". There is no magic spell for doing these things.
May 27, 2015 at 21:26 | comment | added | keshlam | How willing are you to risk that they decide you're too much trouble and/or too expensive and hire the other guy? Meeting halfway is a fairly reasonable outcome, especially since it is salary and the difference accumulates over time. But if you really can't accept that second offer, assume that you're walking away.
May 27, 2015 at 21:25 | comment | added | dalawh | @DJClayworth I did not agree yet. Sorry for the poor choice of words.
May 27, 2015 at 21:24 | comment | added | DJClayworth | Myles asked the important question - did you agree to the 'halfway' offer or not?
May 27, 2015 at 21:23 | comment | added | dalawh | @Myles How would you suggest I phrase the ongoing negotiation?
May 27, 2015 at 21:23 | comment | added | dalawh | @enderland They responded with an offer that was half of what I proposed in my counteroffer. It was by email, but does that matter?
May 27, 2015 at 21:20 | comment | added | Myles | Did you agree to the meeting halfway? If not you are still in negotiations, so just make a counter to their counter offer. If you are getting cold feet after the fact, you need to stand by the agreements that you made.

May 27, 2015 at 20:57 | comment | added | enderland | How did they "ended up meeting me half way" work? Was it just an email response with a new offer? Or was it in person? etc
