Jan 23, 2017 at 23:36 comment added manutdfan Thanks @IDrinkandIKnowThings. Really appreciate it. I am going to run with it and if they compare my resume with background check form and then ask me why I filled different dates, I'll just tell then what the deal is.
Jan 23, 2017 at 21:43 comment added IDrinkandIKnowThings @manutdfan - I just mean that some companies red flag applicants that have too many employers. Its kind of an out dated practice as times have changed and there is no real expectation of company loyalty any more. But there are some companies (mostly small still family owned) that have not updated their practices and still value that company loyalty. A candidate with significant time as a consultant has little if any chance of ever getting hired on at one of these companies unless they know someone.
Jan 23, 2017 at 20:13 comment added manutdfan Thanks. Company is legit with $400 million in revenues so that is not a problem. I was a special case. When I did not get my visa, they wanted me to stay on the team and continue working till I got my Green card and then I would just come back.

But in general, the point of a background check is to see if you're blatantly lying -- saying you have 20 years experience when really you've never done this job before, etc. If they notice a discrepancy in dates they might ask you to explain, but normally they're not going to rescind a job offer over something like that. There are lots of reasons for minor discrepancies, from your case -- contractor versus employee -- to somebody made a mistake to, etc.
