Apr 13, 2017 at 17:40 comment added can-ned_food Allegations of racism and sexism are inflammatory. Even well–meaning people may see evidence of anything and, if it strikes them strongly enough, proceed to “demonize” the source of an offensive event. Although the question doesn't imply any of such things occuring with the asker's situation, that is not an intrinsic problem with the tangential advice given in the answer; rather, that the answerer didn't read the question thoroughly.
Apr 13, 2017 at 13:37 comment added Cruncher @JollyJoker I argue that a lot of these things are even more likely to be found together, than to be found isolated. Particularly the race/religious bias. gender and sexual orientation often go together too. But there's definitely groups of people that are very against a particular one of these
Apr 13, 2017 at 13:31 comment added JollyJoker "When people have biases they're usually very narrow" - I don't think this is true. It's pretty common to have the full batch of race, gender, sexual orientation and religion biases.

Apr 12, 2017 at 8:50 comment added komodosp I don't think the OP is suggesting they sit around in a circle having racist meetings for hours a day. It's quite possible to get work done in the same small office with idle chit-chat throughout the day, most of which, in this case, is racist/sexist/etc.

Apr 11, 2017 at 18:39 comment added Todd Wilcox If you've never been in an environment like this, it's perfectly understandable to doubt whether they exist, but that doesn't mean they don't actually exist. There's no reason to believe that this startup is actually getting anything done. I've consulted for startups where I didn't even think they should have net 30 terms because there was so little work getting done I didn't think they would last the month.
Apr 11, 2017 at 18:39 comment added Mark In a small startup, it's entirely believable: four buddies with similar beliefs start a company, then hire an outsider to fill in a skill gap.
