Jul 22, 2014 at 19:34 comment added O. Jones I've asked this question dozens of times in interviews. My purpose for asking it is this: I'd like to know what motivates each person, and what kinds of assignments the company can offer that person to help them stay motivated. In the software trade, some people say "I hope to be working as a product manager." Others say, "I hope to acquire distinguished expertise in Xyz tech." Others have more modest goals. Nobody's ever mentioned a meth ring; I don't know how the company would support that, with a rule against "for sale" messages sent to the all-employee email alias. :-)

Feb 8, 2013 at 21:38 comment added Blrfl Someone who's looking for a new job is in the worst possible position to answer this question with anything other than "working somewhere other than where I work." Having long-term goals is one thing, but anything beyond the very general will depend on where a candidate lands.

Feb 8, 2013 at 19:48 comment added Be Brave Be Like Ukraine This Q seems to be very relevant. Don't look into what's being specifically asked. Simply get yourself prepared for standard questions.
