Ouch. My recommendation is to decline with a very gentle reason. Off the top of my head, "I really appreciate you asking me to be your reference. I know we had a very positive co-worker experience, but I feel like I don't know enough about your professional stance to where I would be a great reference that employers are looking to hear from. I feel it would be best if I decline since I don't want to hinder your future opportunities. Respectfully, [Name]"
@vulnerable_contractor Exactly the input I like to give: "Is your worst-case scenario really that terrible?". You were extremely open with your status and didn't have control over your condition. If they let you go off of that, then any other job will be a positive step.
@SJuan76 I'd say it's worth pushing for compensation in some way. That's abour 40 business days at 7 hours a day. 280 hours at the difference could be worthwhile. Even $3-4/hr more is another $500 per month.
"any amount of money won't be able to convince me to keep travelling" Everyone has their selling point at some level... ;). Just some easing up since it sounds like you are very level-headed in your approach. Odds are they have to have some considerations for your needs or maybe moving on is a best option.
I agree that if it's drastically different that I'd be discouraged too, but their interview questions could have been cleaner or they have more background experience.
I have to say I find the scale useful regardless of its unknown lower/upper-bound. It reads to me how confident the person is in that area. In this case, there is very little that cannot be done in Photoshop, but making outstanding photography is slightly below par. I do understand the other points of view though, but I agree with @user3038802 that 'Adept, proficient, knowledgeable, etc.' is just as vague.
I always find it interesting when these 'generic' but good sounding messages are posted. They can be molded to fit most people and it can turn a question you'd be caught off guard hearing into a positive way to show yourself.
I think with what you mentioned that it would defend your termination very clearly. It gives an aura of you knowing your duties and rights in your position. How could you be looked down on for your decision? If they'd ask you to lie for the company in a legal area, then you shouldn't want to be in that company.
Agreed. The CNC Machine Operator is a more focused title. If the temp work done was also Machine Operator work, there's no use re-stating it because you didn't stop working when transition from temp to full employment.
My apologies for the confusion. I was agreeing that Notice of Resignation was a great improvement over OP's original Letter of Resignation. Letter sounds too much like a template. I appreciate your kindness though in taking that into consideration ^^.
@JohnKugelman This is definitely important to know. Based on him saying "with people outside the team", it may be sentence structure or getting a meaning across. However, this post seems properly built, so maybe their "mentor" is the one not making sense.
I love it. That not only gives you a positive light if you're in the interview process when they read it, but it may provide some loyalty feeling with the company. Recommending others while interviewing may not come off in the best light, unless they bring it up directly in some way.
@VietnhiPhuvan You're absolutely right. Each manager could see you very differently based on your personality connection with them, which goes beyond what you know. Different points-of-view and different understanding of who you are. Social skills are important, regardless of what job you're in. (+1'd to 20k+)
@DavidK As others have mentioned, it shouldn't be much different whether it was the same company or not. This scenario may help some because, whether you lock into A or B, you'll still have a positive connection to the other division due to both interviews going well. I don't see many downfalls off of what you've said so far =).
